With cardiotraining you train your lungs and your cardiovascular system. Equipment such as the bicycle, treadmill, cross trainer and rowing machine, etc. are very suitable for this. With good cardio training you build up extra fitness.
If you mainly want to lose weight, a combination of cardio and strength training is very important. Your muscles also burn calories. When you finish a (heavy) strength training, your muscles need longer to recover. This recovery uses more energy and therefore burns extra calories.
